Volunteering

Volunteering

At Hambleton Community Action we are proud to support our community, the residents, local groups and organisations. We do this through the services we provide and the volunteering opportunities available.

Giving your time as little or as often as you would like, we aim to give anyone interested in volunteering an opportunity to get involved and enjoy the benefits. Our volunteering opportunities are all within the Hambleton area and include volunteer driving, community visiting, respite sitting, shopping and office roles.

No previous experience of volunteering is needed, training is available for all opportunities, as well as buddy’s and mentors who are there to share their own volunteering experiences and support you as you get involved.

Not only do we have volunteering roles that support the work we do, but we have projects that focus on supported volunteering, Stepping Stones and Busy Buddies are for those that wish to volunteer but face challenges or barriers making it harder to take part.

Perhaps you have an interest, hobby or previous employment experience that you could share with others. Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes and at times can be as unique as the individuals that take part. We have many opportunities, and always welcome those with thoughts about what they could offer to others.

Benefits of Volunteering

When you donate your time, skills, energy, and enthusiasm to volunteering it can be equally as rewarding for you as it is for those you are helping.

Volunteering has a wide range of benefits and can contribute to an individual’s overall health and well-being, with improved physical and mental health, increased levels of confidence and self-esteem being amongst the most recognisable benefits.

Keep Learning

An opportunity to learn new skills, gain knowledge, and share your experiences. While learning new skills may be beneficial to many, it is not a requirement for a fulfilling experience. The most beneficial skills you can bring as a volunteer are compassion, an open mind and a willingness to join in.

Volunteering to build employment skills can be an opportunity to get work experience towards a chosen profession, keeping existing skills up to date or as a way to access employment by building important workplace skills.

Give Your Time

When you give your time, you make a difference to individuals, the community and to the organisation you volunteer for.

Meet Others

Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet new people and make friends, especially if you are new to the area. Connecting with others, making friends, helps you to learn about local resources, it also strengthens the support network you have around you

Have Fun

Volunteering can be a way to explore existing interests and passions. It can also provide you with the opportunity to get creative or motivate you to take part in something you’ve never considered before.

Helping Your Community

By volunteering at Hambleton Community Action, in your community, you contribute to making it a nicer and more enjoyable place to be. Just like the benefits you get from volunteering so do the recipients benefit, they stay connected, keep learning, have fun, feel a part of a community. Your volunteering helps the community members feel independent and you can contribute positively to their overall health and well being.
